According to the Texas Biomedical Research Institute, four baboons left their enclosure around 3:15 p.m. on Saturday.
According to a spokesperson from the institute, three were captured within 20 minutes of their escape and the fourth was officially accounted for on Saturday evening.
“Our immediate concern has been for the safety of the animals, personnel and our neighbors in the surrounding area,” the institute said in a press release. “Our animal capture team and entire animal care team acted diligently to locate, secure and account for all four baboons.”
The institute says that they house 2500 total primates on their premises located on the far west side, 1100 of them baboons.
The institute says that the primates at the facility are used for lifestyle disorder research such as hypertension and diabetes.
